Bangkok Lane @ George Town Penang



On both sides of Bangkok Lane are handsome pre-war residential houses built in 1928 by Cheah Leong Kah. The architect who designed them was Chew Eng Eam. Bangkok lane has its own unique identity shining out next to Burma lane where a beautiful and mysterious temples in Penang is the Dhammikarama Burmese Temple. This is the first Buddhist temple build in Penang back in 1803, this 200 years old temple where formally known as Nandy Moloh Burmese Temple as the land was originally purchase by a Burmese, Nonya Betong from the British. This provides a historical evidence of Burmese occupation in Penang as well as the retreat of Buddhist devotees, these actually link back to my family history.... thats will be on another blog.

standing tall behind these row of houses is the magnificent Architecture of Wat Chaiya ( A Thai Buddist temple where the 3rd longest reclining Buddha in Asia sited
